I wish life were a cabaret
But since it’s not, I’m trying to come up with good excuses to wear these outfits. So far, I’ve come up with:
1. Halloween.
2. A picnic on Mt. Sanitas.
3. Work.

Etsy shop of the month: Moonchild Vintage
Nothing epitomizes Boulder fashion more than the words “moonchild” and “vintage” in one sentence. Surprisingly, our Etsy shop of the month, Moonchild Vintage, began in Northern California and only recently moved to Boulder.
Even if you don’t have a child/middle name/dog named “Rainbow” or “Starshine,” don’t let the name of this shop deter you. If this shop were a physical destination, I would move in there, and my dog is a prancing poodle named Giselle. Owner Toni Oswald has a sharp eye for the exquisite, the funky and the fun. She sees clothing as an opportunity for creating magic.
“What character do I feel today? What am I going to make and give to the world? An outfit in itself can be a work of art,” she says. “I guess that is what is meant by style: how we collage together clothes out of how we feel emotionally and
physically.”
And today, I feel like vintage 1970s bell-bottom Levis ($155) and gray beatnik cowboy boots ($48) accented by a peacock-pattern Zardozi Indian evening bag ($60) and an antique silver Queen of Arabia moon necklace ($150).
Or maybe I’m feeling French and should buy the red, white and blue Bastille-stripe knit dress ($34). No, it’s got to be the Palm Beach Story strapless 1970s sundress ($38). Or maybe, just maybe, it’s all of the above. Oh yes, I’m feeling multidimensional (read through justification: shopaholicy).
As Oswald says on her Etsy Web site, www.moonchildvintage.etsy.com, “I hope my shop can inspire others the way vintage clothes have inspired me. They tell stories and we create more stories in wearing them ourselves. So here is to our stories.” And here’s to my favorite Etsy shop of the month, if not eternity.

Fashion photo of the week: Happy feet
My fashion column this week is about feet. Mainly, how to treat your feet with love this summer.
Here are some shoes from recent fashion shows that are a different way to love your tootsies. In other words, they may leave your arches aching, ravage your back and send you directly to a wheelchair in three years, but sometimes love hurts, right?
