Getting ready for a vacation in Lake Powell…
And I’m looking around for some cool stuff to bring with me.
Here are a few of my ideas:

Maybe?
But seriously, I wish I had ordered a few retro swim caps. I have heard horror stories about “Powell Hair,” which is sandy, wind-whipped and tangled. Here are some swim caps I will long for all weekend:

$18, www.popinaswimwear.com
$10.88, www.headcovers.com.

I recently wrote a column about my friend Laura, who has more than 350 pairs of socks.

Here is her most recent pair.

You know this Web site is going to be great because it’s called holytaco.com. Here, you can find the most comprehensive collection of “awesomely bad unicorn tattoos” in the galaxy.

Here is my personal favorite:

Just. Plain. Horrible. Awesome.

Swimwear that is modest — and hot!
Here are some words that have never been uttered before and will never be spoken again:
I have found a swimming suit that looks great on every woman. Age and size notwithstanding.
The perfect suit is the retro one-piece classic sheath by Esther Williams (www.esther-williams.com).

Williams even makes plus-sized suits.
Find EW’s suits discounted (for only $65) at www.retrodress.com/otherstuffsix.html.

Esther Williams makes tons of other styles, too, including a bandeau style (very trendy this summer) with a detachable halter strap,

and even a swim dress that is old-school enough to not look dorky. It’s also known as the Marilyn swimdress.
(Although the white color makes me suspicious of whether it should instead of be called a ‘lying on the beach dress’ instead.)
My obsession with animal prints has me gawking at the “wild thing classic sheath,” below.

Not all cowgirl style stinks like Greeley
Here are some ways to Southwestern it up and still look acceptable outside of the Fairgrounds. All with recession-proof pricing from Forever 21.
Cutoff Denim Short w/ Feather Tie, $15.80

Tiered Buffalo Check Skirt, $17.80

Eva Plaid Chiffon Top, $17.80

Ruffle Hem Denim Skirt, $19.80

Charmer Plaid Woven Top, $13.80

Floral Hem Denim Skirt, $17.80

Leopard party dress, $22.80.
OK, not the last one. But that is the dress I recently bought when I was trying to find a cowgirl outfit, mentioned in my fashion column on Friday. Sigh.

Every once in a while, Urban Outfitters makes a horrible mistake.
This is the worst yet.

Urban Renewal gauze harem pants, $48.
There is nothing flattering or lovely about these shorts.

I recently bought a parrot skirt at Anthropologie.

It was funny and novel, until I found a parrot T at Forever 21.

And a parrot ring at Anthropologie:

And a silk parrot dress on Etsy.com.

$58
Then I discovered that Roberto Cavalli designed a parrot dress.

I was beginning to love this surprising trend… until THIS.

Why must Paris ruin everything?
