I wish there any other acceptable place to wear huge hats other than the Kentucky Derby and southern Baptist chur When I am an old lady, I vow to wear derby hats every day to Perkins, because that’s where old people go. And Bingo.

Beautiful derby hats
In these first two pictures, I like the colors: Black and cream, with accents of yellow or red, make these hats  more subtle, if that word could ever be used to describe anything Kentucky.

The beachy quality of this hat makes me think I could possibly get away with wearing it on vacation. To Copacabana, of course.

The oversized polka dots makes this hat unique.

Another from Couture Creations with a different shape, in the classic B&W: $315.

Questionable  derby hats

The infamous red and purple… must be a Red Hat Lady.

Too much of a good thing is badbadbad.

This looks like a wildlife refuge living on her head. I wonder if her neck was sore that night.

And finally, I wonder how many garden gnomes live in and under this hat? Oh wait, I see one!

And I thought I had bad ideas! A friend of a friend is doing this “project” in Vegas right now: www.funwith31.com.

From her site:
So, here’s the scoop. I go on 31 dates in 31 days the final 31 days of my 31st year. The challenge is to keep the price under $31, surviving each other’s company for a minimum of 31 minutes, and have fun doing it. Afterwards, I’ll write about each date here and then my readers get two-thirds of the vote of who my second date will be with on my 32nd birthday, May 28th. I reserve the right to have the final third of that vote. {It’s my game…I can make up the rules!}

Not to mention she has great fashion sense. Love the necklace with the shirt.

  • I think I have Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder. #
  • Today I may as well sit on the porch swing and whittle a ukulele. I wrote about weather and fashion. How ’bout that weather? Whittle. #
  • It’s not that I can’t sew. I choose to use safety pins instead of buttons. I think it makes me look like a rebel. #
  • Cute or scary? Sometimes the line is oh so fine…. http://tinyurl.com/cln7vv via @addthis #
  • Today I did high-flying trapeze, wrote a story about divorce, ate three Kit Kats and bought a new zebra-print tank. Ah, journalism. #
  • Riding my motorcycle. Woman rolls down window and asks, “How many CCs is that?” I think she’s complimenting my boots. So I say “Thanks!” #
  • I was going to work out until I realized I forgot shoes, pants and a sports bra. So margaritas it is. #
  • Did you know the “leotard” was named after a man in the circus? #

  • And no I don’t just like that stained glass because I like on Utica Street and it’s made by Utica House. OK, maybe I do. #

Come, let us journey to the center of Middle Earth, aka the Pearl Street Mall.
I am sorry for the terrible quality of this photo but it was taken with my camera phone. I had to move swifty and then scurry away, for I could have been mauled or beaten or forced to frolic with this wild winged creature.

The curious black shapes near this woman’s shoulders are wings of some kind. Onward, dragon!

If you are like me, you have a lot of gorgeous dresses for really no reason and you don’t have anywhere to wear them.

Here is a creative solution for what to do with them:

  • An “inside source” (journalism jargon for your mom) says Chelsea Handler wears ugly sleeveless shirts because she has a sweat problem. Cool. #
  • I am all sugar and Betty-lashes. #
  • Please don’t beat me up because I am wearing leather. I didn’t kill it. It was already dead when I found it on the sales rack at Urban. #
  • I have overcorrected for my silk-stink mistake yesterday by wearing a fresh-scented leather skirt today. #
  • I still do not quite understand Twitter. Do you? #
  • I’ve been wondering what the repulsive smell was all day and then I realized I am wearing raw silk. #

I think I will write a new “Elements of Style” book…..  it will involve five-period elipses, the newest summer scarves and a chapter on parentheses and pashminas.

Pompadours are generally funny. So is my friend, The General. The video she recently posted on her blog about pompadours made me smile the whole time: http://thegeneralsbooty.blogspot.com.

The General is my make-up queen. Also she could beat me up with one glare, so I like to be nice to her, and you should, too.
