Whoever said Boulder wasn’t hip and urban?

Give two gifts at once this holiday season. In other words, shop without the guilt.
Darn it, I had this idea, but for a consignment store. Good idea on my part; zero execution. Turns out some Erie folks beat me to it.  More power to them.

It’s called Hope Hub (www.hopehub.com), where you can shop online and donate half of the commissions generated from the purchase to the cause of your choice.
I just added my mom’s charity, Project Meds and Nets, which raises money for malaria medicine and mosquito nets, to help fight malaria in the Kyangwali Refugee Camp (www.peopleweaver.com).

The site includes more than 200 of the most popular online retailers, and allows shoppers to choose from a popular charity or list their own.
Hope Hub was founded by two sisters,  Melissa Richards and Katy Richards, after their mom suffered a brain injury at age 49. The women gave up their legal careers to take care of their mother. In doing so, they met many poeple who were also in need. They decided to band together with these people, and for these people, to create the Web site.

Steve and Barry’s (at the Twin Peaks Mall in Longmont) is having the mother of all holiday sales:  starting today through the holiday season, everything in the store is $8.98 and under. This includes the Bitten line, pea coats, down jackets, jeans and sweaters.
Dude.
Whoa.

From Elaine Waterman:

lululemon athletica, Boulder’s spot to get functional and fashionable athletic wear, will be presenting a “Function as Fashion Show” Dec. 16 to kick off Lunafest.  During the show, local breast cancer survivors will be featuring lululemon’s athletic wear, as well as sharing their inspirational stories of courage and triumph.
lululemon’s mission is to provide components that help people live longer, healthier and more fun lives.  For this reason, lululemon is working with the Breast Cancer Fund as well as HealthLinks Clinic, a Boulder clinic devoted to assisting those touched by cancer, to provide cancer education to all their guests.  This inspirational event will be held from 6- 8 p.m., starting with the fashion show and ending with shopping, with a percentage of profits donated to The Breast Cancer Fund and HealthLinks Foundation.   Sponsors for the night include Oskar Blues, Gallo and more.

“Our main purpose for putting on this show is to showcase how our models are strong and athletic individuals, that cancer may have changed their lives, but it did not change their spirit,” said Elaine Waterman, lululemon’s Colorado Community Manager.  “They have been through a struggle, but with the support of their friends and family and their own will, they are thriving.”

This event will also be the first time tickets for Lunafest 2008 will be available for purchase.  Lunafest – the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities – is holding its 2008 festival on Jan. 10 at the Boulder Theater.  All money raised by the festival will go to support the Breast Cancer Fund and HealthLinks Clinic.  So far, Lunafest, sponsored by Luna, the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, has raised more than $100,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and more than $250,000 for other women’s nonprofits.

I am not graceful enough to burlesque. But I do dress the part. Here’s the quote of the day from a burlesque dancer, Miss Orchid Mei, who will be performing at the burlesque Christmas party Friday in Longmont.

“Burlesque embodies glamour and class with a twist of personality.  Keep that in mind while you are dressing.  I have been dressing to the nines for years.  Burlesque didn’t change that; it simply married my fashion sense.  I always got stared at for overdressing, and it still occurs, but when I’m at a show, I’m at home.”

I love grafffiti. I love clothes. I also love my cousin, who recently launched this wicked clothing line: http://www.myspace.com/shantical
The clothes have a great urban attitude to them, and they’re designed here in Colorado.
Here are a few of my favorite designs.
